Cryptogams Section (Bryophytes, Pteridophytes)

This section is responsible for the documentation of diversity and distribution of Bryophytes and Pteridophytic flora of Nepal.

This section helps students, researchers and other concerned people to identify bryophytes, ferns and fern allies. A total of 1,213 species of bryophytes and 583 species of pteridophytes (ferns and fern-allies) have been reported from Nepal. Out of these, 31 species of bryophyte and three species of ferns are endemic to Nepal. A total of 18,000 herbarium specimens with six type specimens of pteridophytes (ferns and fern-allies) are housed at KATH.

National Herbarium and Plant Laboratories, Department of Plant Resources has published “Ferns and Fern-Allies of Nepal Volume 1 (2015), Volume 2 (2019) & Volume 3 (2020)”
